Monday Night, a literary journal established in 2001, publishes quality literature of new and emerging writers from around the world. Monday Night is distributed at independent bookstores and sold on our website, and all work accepted for print is simultaneously published online.
Writers are invited to submit previously unpublished work during our open reading periods from September 15-December 15. any submissions received outside of this timeframe will NOT be read. Please follow our guidelines carefully. To determine if your work might be a good fit for us, take a look at our most recent edition. what to send during our open reading period (september 15 - december 15)
poetry: Submit up to five poems. All styles and lengths are welcome.
prose: Fiction, nonfiction, and essays up to 5,000 words. Send up to three pieces of prose.
translations: Translations in English are welcome in all genres.
unpublished work only: We accept unpublished writing only. This includes online publications. If you have published the piece in any online or print journal, please do not submit it to Monday Night.
simultaneous submissions: Please inform us if, during the submissions process, your work is accepted elsewhere, so we can remove it from consideration.
how to submit
Email submissions to editors(at)mondaynightlit(dot)com. Send one doc, rtf, or pdf file attached to your email. Please title or label all your work clearly within the document. Your name and contact info should also appear on your submission.
We do not confirm receipt of submissions.

response time: We will respond to all submissions by February of the following year.
payment
Each published writer will receive two copies of the issue in which their work appears. Beginning with Issue 8 (2009), all accepted work is also published on this website after the release of the print edition.
sales
Monday Night is for sale at Quimby's (Chicago), City Lights Bookstore (San Francisco), Pegasus Fine Books (Berkeley), and Diesel Books (Oakland). Copies of the current issue and several back issues may also be purchased via Paypal on our Issues page.
The print edition is black and white, 5.5" x 8.5", and approximately 44-48pp, saddle-stiched with a cardstock cover.
